Virginia Katherine Williams, 61, Sarasota, died Oct. 14, 2006. She was born May 24, 1945, in St. Louis and came to Sarasota in 1969 from Wichita, Kan. She received a bachelor's degree in 1968 from the University of South Florida and a master's degree in education in 2001. She was an elementary school teacher for 23 years and had taught at Emma E. Booker Elementary School for the past 18 years. She was a member of St. Margaret of Scotland Episcopal Church and Daughters of the King. Survivors include her husband of 12 years, Jerry; daughters Stephanie K. Gillespie of Falls Church, Va., and Rebecca E. O'Brien of Orlando; a son, James D. Barnett of Weston; a sister, Martha E. Avery of Fort Morgan, Colo.; brothers David W. Chard of Taiwan and Frederick H. Chard of Lafayette, Colo.; and seven grandchildren. A memorial service will be at 11 a.m. Saturday at St. Margaret of Scotland Episcopal Church. Wiegand Brothers Funeral Home, Sarasota, is in charge. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to TideWell Hospice and Palliative Care, 5955 Rand Blvd., Sarasota, FL 34238; or to the Wellness Community of Southwest Florida, 3900 Clark Road, Building P-3, Sarasota, FL 34233.
