Virginia Johnson, born in 1923, spouse of Clarence Higbie, mother of Bruce, Pam, Gary and Candy, died on October 19, 2014.
->HIGBIE, Virginia Grace (nee Johnson) was reunited with her husband Clarence "Kirby" Higbie on Sunday morning, October 19, 2014. Ginny was born in Brooklyn, NY, on January 7, 1923. She graduated from Bayside High School and attended Queens College. She met Kirby in a self-induced roller skating accident in 1942, and married him in January 1943, while he was serving in the Navy. Ginny worked for IBM in New York until the birth of her first child in 1947. Thereafter, she spent the majority of her time serving as den mother, PTA member, chief cook and bottle washer, and primary caregiver to four children. Ginny was also a founding member of St. John's United Methodist Church in Atlanta. She is survived by her brothers Rev. George Johnson (wife Jan) and Allen Johnson (wife Barbara), four children Bruce (wife Carol), Pam Cook (husband Skip), Gary (wife Perri), and Candy Cooper (husband Joe), four grandchildren, Chris (and Laura), Zachary, and Samantha Higbie, and Regina (and Scott) Gaffney, and five great-grandchildren (Christopher, Eli, and Addie Higbie, and Noah and Lucas Gaffney). She also leaves behind a cherished personal friend, Mr. Sparks Thornton. Ginny's remains were cremated and placed beside Kirby's in Arlington Cemetery, Sandy Springs, GA. A memorial service for Ginny will be held at St. John's United Methodist Church, 550 Mt. Paran Road, NW, Atlanta, GA, on Monday, October 27, at 2:00 p.m. In lieu of flowers, friends may make a donation to their favorite charity or to St. John's UMC.
