Aug. 8, 1917-Sept. 21, 2009 Virginia Hood Davis, 92, of Cumberland Valley Road, Gainesville, died Monday, Sept. 21, 2009, at her residence. A native of White County, she was the daughter of the late P.L. and Mary Charlotte Jenkins Hood. She has lived in Gainesville for a number of years. She was a retired teacher having taught at Sautee Nachoochee, Taylorsville, and Gainesville Mill for a number of years. She was a member of First Baptist Church, Green Street, and is preceded in death by her husband, the Rev. R.E. "Dick" Davis. Survivors include her son and daughter-in-law, the Rev. Parks and Nancy Davis, Gainesville; sons, Alan Davis, Indianapolis, Ind., and Melvin Davis, Sautee; daughter and son-in-law, Jayne Davis Rizner and Michael Rizner, Evans; grandchildren, Beth, Brooks, R. Trippe, Richard, Ansley, A. Trippe, Myriah, Laura Beth, Taylor, Davis, Joseph, Jacob, and Macy; great-grandchildren, Matthew, Andrew, Maggie, Jordan, Alice, Hagan, Roran, Laura, Robert, and Hudson; brother and sister-in-law, P.L. Jr. and Ginger Hood of Sautee; special Caregivers and friends, Jeanette McClendon and Deeanne Harrison; nephew, Frank Satterfield of Villa Rica; Sisters-in-law, Eugenia Kelly, Atlanta and Ernestine Hogan, Dunwoody; and other nieces and nephews also survive. Graveside services will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday, Sept. 23, 2009, at Nachoochee United Methodist Church Cemetery in White County. The Rev. Dr. Bill Coates will officiate. The family will receive friends at the Little & Davenport Funeral Home on Tuesday, Sept. 22, 2009, from 5 to 7:30 p.m. In lieu of flowers, the family has requested that memorial contributions be made to the 3rd Century Campaign at the First Baptist Church, 751 Green Street, Gainesville, GA 30501 or Nahcoochee United Methodist Church, in memory of Virginia Hood Davis.
