VIRGINIA H. CARTER Virginia H. Carter, 83, of Vero Beach, Fl died Friday, April 27, 2007 at the Florida Baptist Retirement Center after an extended illness. Virginia was born in Macon, GA September 7, 1923. Her mother died when Virginia was 16 years old and she became the surrogate mother to her younger sister and brother. She married Roy H. Carter in December, 1941. In 1950, they moved to Florida for Roy to study for the ministry. Roy Carter served as pastor in churches in Florida and Georgia. Virginia served in all activities of the church including teaching classes, directing the WMU, GA's, YWA, and being a choir member. After her three children had completed college and started their own careers, she completed her Bachelor's Degree in Elementary Education at Florida Technological University, now the University of Central Florida. She taught as a Special Education Teacher at Pine Hills Academy in Orlando for 10 years before retiring. She is predeceased by her husband, Roy, and brothers, Henry and Marvin. Survivors include her children, Angela D. Carter, Carolyn (husband Jon) Mangeot, and Roy H. (wife Ronda) Carter, Jr.; grandchildren: Dean (Angie) Carter, Scott Carter and Michael Mangeot. great grandchildren: Ashley and Tyler Carter, and a wee one expected; her sister Martha Harris of Macon, her brother, Franklin Harden of Luray, VA. The family will receive friends 5-7 PM Monday, April 30, 2007 at the Cox-Gifford-Seawinds Funeral Home in Vero Beach. A Celebration of Life will be held at the First Baptist Church of Vero Beach 10 AM, Tuesday, May 1, 2007 with Rev. Michael Carter officiating. Burial will follow at Crestlawn Cemetery in Vero Beach. Memorial contributions may be made to the Florida Baptist Retirement Center Benevolent Fund, 1006 33rd Street, Vero Beach, FL 32960, the First Baptist Church Building Fund, 2206 16th Avenue, Vero Beach, FL 32960 or VNA Hospice Foundation, 1110 35th Lane, Vero Beach, FL 32960. Arrangements are under the direction of Cox-Gifford-Seawinds Funeral Home and Crematory, Vero Beach, Florida. Condolences may be sent through www.seawindsfh.com/obit.php
