Virginia Elizabeth Williams, 84, of Rome Meadows in Dix, IL., formerly of West Frankfort, IL. died at 9 a.m., Tuesday, August 19, 2008 at Mt. Vernon Countryside Manor. She was born in Northeastern, Arkansas on February 26, 1924, the daughter of Dan & Ocea Pearl Burchell. She married Woodrow (Woody) Williams on June 14, 1944 and he preceded her in death on November 9, 1983. Mrs. Williams was of the Nazarene Faith. Mrs. Williams was an LPN, she worked at the Franklin Hospital in Benton for 15 years, and then worked at the UMWA Hospital in West Frankfort for 15 years. She is survived by two sons: Barry Joe Williams & wife Sadonia of Mt. Vernon, IL. and Dan Williams of Waterbury, Connecticut; three grandchildren: Peggy Maher, Christopher Ward Williams & wife Jennifer, and Jeffery Lynn Williams & wife Angelica; six great-grandchildren: Benjamin Maher, Samantha Williams, Parker Williams, Grace Williams, Walter Zackary Williams, Hunter Woodrow Williams. Mrs. Williams was preceded in death by her parents, husband, and three sisters: Mary Francis Wiggs, Evelyn Fowler & Josephine Hood. Funeral services will be held at 12 Noon on Thursday, August 21, 2008 at the Morton & Johnston Funeral Home in Benton, IL. with Jonathan Schnautz officiating. Burial will be in the Masonic & Oddfellows Cemetery in Benton. Visitation will be after 10 a.m. on Thursday, August 21, 2008 at the Morton & Johnston Funeral Home in Benton, IL.
