->BENTON -- Virginia E. Carter, 84, of Benton passed away Wednesday, April 23, 2008, at Eastern Maine Medical Center in Bangor.She was born March 17, 1924, in Fairfield, the daughter of Rosco and Edna (Sargent) Getchell.She graduated from Lawrence High School in Fairfield.On Nov. 8, 1942, she married the love of her life, Phillip W. Carter. They had 65 wonderful years together.She worked side by side for more than 30 years with her beloved husband doing the bookwork for Phil Carter's Garage. When they weren't working, they spent many days going on trips and just enjoying each other's company. They traveled all of the state of Maine and took trips to Florida. Their greatest joys were the times that they spent at their camp in Hartland.They loved to do jigsaw puzzles during the winter. They would do as many as 30 in a season. She was a loving mother and grandmother and always enjoyed being in the company of her family.She was a devoted member of the Shawmut Chapel since childhood.She was predeceased by her parents; two brothers, Edwin and Alfred Getchell; and a close cousin, Shirley Poulin.She is survived by her soulmate and husband Phil; her children, Wyone Linnell and companion, Don Michaud, Glenys L. Michaud and her soulmate, Thomas Hunter Jr. and Larry Carter and his wife, Gladys; 10 grandchildren, Eric Linnell and his fiancée, Angie Smith, Tammy Fuller and her husband, Rick, Patrick Linnell and his wife, Bette-Jean, Stephanie Mason and her husband, Kenneth, Dorothy Tulley and her husband, Matthew, Jonathan Whitcomb and his wife, Mindy, Christine Oliver and her husband, Gary Jr., Elizabeth Hubbard and her husband, Carlton, Penelope Carter, and Adam Carter and his companion, Christine Douglas; 16 great-grandchildren; two brothers, Randolph and Norman Getchell; sister-in-law Laura Bray; brother-in-law R. Zalisco Carter; and several nieces and nephews.Visitation will be held from 5 to 8 p.m. Friday, April 25, at Lawry Brothers Funeral Home, 107 Main St., Fairfield. The funeral service will be at 1 p.m. on Saturday, April 26, at the Shawmut Chapel.In lieu of sending flowers the family requests that donations be made to the Memorial Fund of Shawmut Chapel, P.O.
