Obituary of Virginia-Auburn Carter


Virginia Auburn Carter, 94, died May 28, 2013. She was born in New York City and lived in Vero Beach for 19 years before moving to Greenwich, Conn., earlier this year. She was a graduate of Dickinson College. Before retirement, she was library director in Coventry, R.I. She was named Rhode Island Librarian of the Year in 1991 by the Rhode Island Library Association. Survivors include her sons, William D., Gordon K. and Alexander D.; daughter: Laurie R. Sweet; five grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her first husband, Dr. Gordon Farquhar Robertson; second husband, Donald Lloyd Carter; half sister, Dolly Auburn Kinnear; and daughter, Nancy Robertson. Memorial contributions may be made to Literacy Volunteers of Kent County, 1672 Flat River Road, Coventry, R.I. 02816. Services: Will be private. Arrangements are by International Funeral Service of New York, Brooklyn, N.Y.
