NICHOLS, Violet Evelyn (nee Kirby)It is with great sadness the Family announces the passing of our Mother, (Nana, Auntie Vi), Violet Evelyn Nichols (nee Kirby) on July 6, 2012 at the Madison Care Centre, Coquitlam, B.C. Born Jan. 25, 1915, in Kilmacthomas, County Waterford, Ireland, she emigrated to Canada with her parents, John Joseph and May Rebecca Kirby (nee Boyle), her brothers, John and Richard, and her sisters Eileen, Vivien and Thelma landing at Quebec City on May 11, 1924. Violet married John Stanley Nichols on June 2, 1932, in Vancouver, B.C. Violet was and will always be remembered as the true Matriarch of our family. She was not only a mother, grandmother and great-grandmother, she was a friend to all her children and would always be there in times for support. She avoided negatives and sought only positive solutions. She was truly a special person. Predeceased by her parents, her siblings and her husband, (1991), her beloved daughter Violet Belle Mulholland (1994) and her first grandson Michael John Mulholland (1998). She is lovingly survived by her daughter Violet Belle's children, Catherine Mulholland, (Lyonel Recorbet) in France, and Patrick Mulholland (Karla Grennon) and her grandson Michael's wife, Valerie Lang-Mulholland and her son-in-law Mike Mulholland (Janet), her son, John Stanley Nichols (Terry) and their children Jennifer Johnston (Doug), Stephanie and John Nichols; her son David Wayne Nichols (Joan) and their children Andrea MacDonald (Murray), David Jr. (Pia) and Brenton Nichols (Julie). She is also survived and admired by her great-grandchildren: Michael, Christopher and Caroline Recorbet; Shane and Leah Lang Mulholland, Ryan (Leigh-Anne), Brittany Howarth, Rachael Moree, Kassandra, Nicholas, Christopher and Liam Nichols; Bruin and Kai MacDonald; Ravi and Jaian Nichols, Benjamin and Noah Nichols. All will miss her Irish stories and tales of travel throughout the world. She is also fondly remembered by her niece Eileen Morrissey who was a loyal companion through good and bad times especially in Nana's final days. Throughout their long friendship, they enjoyed diverse theatrical performances, shows, movies as well as oil painting and traveling together. Violet has many relatives both in B.C. and the Pacific Coast related to the Kirby and Boyle families in Ireland. Violet kept ties with her heritage, the Boyle family of Whitestown and the Brown family of Kilmacthomas through correspondence and her beloved visits to Ireland with several of her grandchildren. Leslie and Ashley Brown were especially close making trips to see her in Canada. The Family wishes to thank all of the staff of One South at The Madison for the care and attention given to Violet during her stay of 9 months. We offer special thanks to all the nursing and support staff who have been so kind and understanding through the long and frustrating palliative period. A Service will be held at 10:45 a.m., July 12, 2012, in St. Clement's Anglican Church, 3400 Institute Road, N. Vancouver, B.C. Rev. Elizabeth Mathers officiating. Refreshments to follow at the Church. In lieu of flowers, please make a donation in Violet's name to St. Clement's Building Fund or a charity of the donor's choice.
