Obituary of Viki-K. Braun

MARTINEZ, Ga. - Viki K. Braun, 54, passed quickly into paradise on Saturday, August 25, 2007 from a massive coronary. Viki was born in Honolulu, Hawaii on July 25, 1953 to Robert and Gloria Critchett while stationed there on Naval Duty. She always loved the translation "my heart's desire" of her given Hawaiian name. Funeral services will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Wednesday August 29, 2007 at Platt's Belair Rd. Chapel with Reverend Dr. Don C. Berry officiating. Viki was always dedicated to education and was graduated from Central Michigan University with honors. She taught and coached in Michigan for many years before moving to Columbia County and Richmond County Schools. Her work with students at the Alternative School in Richmond County was some of her fondest memories. Her work with the Boy Scouts of America improved the camping and swimming programs. Upon retirement from teaching she owned/co-owned and operated many small businesses in Augusta, including Louie J's Restaurant named after Louis Joseph Braun, her husband's grandfather. Her hobbies of catering and raising of heirloom chickens at her "Hephzibah Hen House' further enlarged her large circle of friends. Her latest, which was founded by her, "GA Seminars by the Sea", a school for porcelain art painters, will be among the many accomplishments in her legacy. She is survived by her devoted husband of 32 years Paul Robert Braun; her beloved children, Alison Colette Braun and Aaron Thomas Braun all of Martinez; parents, Gloria Staples Critchett of Martinez, Georgia and Robert Critchett of Traverse City, Michigan; her sister, Susan Hymer (Brian) of Lima Ohio, nieces, Chanin Lowe (Chris) of Athens, Georgia, Chandra Nott (Joe) of Lima, Ohio; her brother, Robert "Bob" Critchett Jr. (Anita) of Homer, Alaska and nieces Marina, Denali, and nephew Dylan of Homer, Alaska. She is also survived by brother-in-law, Louis Braun (Terri) and nephews, Louis Braun and Thomas Braun, all of Houghton, Michigan; her uncles and aunts, "Dink" Staples, Alpharetta Georgia, Vivian "Red" Strickland of Abbeville, South Carolina; and numerous cousins. Her many friends to which she gave so much of herself included Doreen McMann - Trimboli, Granger, Indiana, Suzanne and Emily Painter, Hephzibah, Georgia. She is a member of Warren Baptist Church where she taught five year old Sunday School classes for many years. The family will receive friends Tuesday August 28, 2007 from 7:00 p.m. until 9:00 p.m. at Platt's Funeral Home Belair Rd. If so desired, memorials may be made to GWOCP GA Seminars by the Sea, 2863 Old Highway One, Hephzibah, Ga. 30815. Platt's Funeral Home, 337 N. Belair Rd., Evans, Ga. 30809.
