Deputy Sheriff LAKELAND -- Mr. Vernon Matthew "Matt" Williams of Lakeland died Thursday (Sept. 28, 2006) in Lakeland. He was 39. Born in Leoma, Tenn., on March 28, 1967, he was a longtime resident of Lakeland. He was a deputy sheriff for the Polk County Sheriff's Office. Mr. Williams is survived by his wife, Nancy Jean Williams; mother, Neely Maxine Williams, Polk City; sons, Christopher Matthew Williams, Jimmy Allen Williams, both of Polk City; daughter, Amanda Rochelle Williams, Polk City; brothers, James Alan Williams, Mark Benjamin Williams, both of Greer, S.C., Daniel Winston Williams, Polk City, Thomas Joseph Williams, Robert Lee Williams, both of Lakeland. Services will be at 1 p.m. Tuesday at Victory Assembly of God Church in Lakeland. Services for his K-9 partner, DiOGi, will also be held at this time. Friends and guests may arrive at 11:30 a.m. Lakeland Funeral Home.
