Verna G. O'Donnell (nee Shelbourne) Merrillville/East Chicago Verna G. O'Donnell (nee Shelbourne), age 88, formerly of East Chicago, passed away on Monday, May 24, 2004 at the Towne Centre, Merrillville. She is survived by three sons, Charles (Darlene) of Munster, Harold "Herbie' (Mary) of Whiting and James (Sylvia) of Highland; six grandchildren Jeffrey O'Donnell of Munster, Deborah O'Donnell of Chicago, Greg (Kathy) O'Donnell, Brian (Angie) O'Donnell and James (Denise) O'Donnell all of Highland, Dana (Jim) Murr of Wheatfield, IN; seven great grandchildren Patrick and Nolan, Kevin and Trevor, James, Jeremy and Jason; two sisters, Lucy Lay of Canada and Gladys (Hubert) Howard of Lowell; one brother, George Howard (Phyllis) Shelbourne of Chesterton; brother-in-law James O'Donnell of Merrillville; many nieces and nephews. Preceded in death by parents Robert and Edith Shelbourrne, husband Charles O'Donnell, son Howard O'Donnell, three brothers, Melvin Shelbourne, Donald Shephard and Clifford Shelbourne; and one sister Delores Jones. Private funeral services were held Wednesday, May 26, 2004 at St. Paul Episcopal Church in Munster, IN with Father Bennett Jones officiating. Burial, Ridgelawn Cemetery, Gary. There will be no visitation. Verna retired from St. Catherine Hospital after 20 years of service where she was also a member of the Pink Ladies for many years; member of Church of the Good Shepherd for many years; and a lifelong resident of the area. In lieu of flowers, donations to the Multiple Sclerosis Foundation or St. Paul's Episcopal Church in Munster would be appreciated.
