ELLIS, Verna May (nee Anderson) July 3, 1927 - September 4, 2007 Verna passed away peacefully on September 4, 2007 at the age of 80 years, after a long and courageous struggle with the aftermath of Stroke and Heart Disease. She was the daughter of Jim and Mabel Anderson, and was born in Olds, Alberta, a twin to Vera and the second youngest of twelve children. At the age of three, she moved with her family to the Shepard District. She took her schooling there and later worked at the Hudson Bay Co. in Calgary, attaining the position of Manager of the gift card department. In 1948 she married her sweetheart, Grant Ellis. They built their home in the Chestermere area and raised four children, Roselyn (Rick, deceased), Brad (Kathy), Colleen (Ted) and Chris (Ali). Verna will also be sadly missed by her grandchildren, Kara Lynn (Kent), Jason, Shannon and Grant; great-grandchildren Tyler, Kayla and Branden; sisters, Vera Schram, Erma Armstrong, Olive Morris and Corrine Curtis; as well as all of her very special nieces, nephews, and many family and friends. Verna was predeceased by her parents; her beloved husband Grant in 1975; brothers Howard, Leonard and Maynard; sisters Edna Phillips, Stella Mills, Doris Busslinger and Mabel Doolittle. Verna loved beautiful cards, red flowers, babies and nothing tickled her more than to make others laugh. Time with her family was a highlight and she was always ready for a celebration. In healthier times, she loved to dance, curl, camp, fish, knit, cook, work in her yard, "do" her girlfriends' hair and decorate the Chestermere Lake Hall for any upcoming events. Later she went back to retail and worked with her sister Vera at Daillard's Ladies Wear. The last eight years of Verna's life were spent at the Beverly Care Centre, Glenmore, and the family would like to acknowledge and thank Dr. Pereles and the caring staff of Unit 200 West for their commitment to her comfort and well being, with a special thank you to Cornie St. Hilaire for her dedication and care. Those wishing to pay their respects may do so at MOUNTAIN VIEW FUNERAL HOME, today, Friday, September 7, 2007 from 7:00 to 9:00 p.m. A Celebration of Verna's Life will be held in the Chapel of Mountain View Funeral Home on Saturday, September 8, 2007 at 2:00 p.m. If so desired, a memorial donation may be made in Verna's name directly to the Alberta Heart & Stroke Foundation (No. 200, 119 - 14 Street N.W., Calgary, AB, T2N 1Z6) or to the Lupus Foundation of Canada (No. 200, 1301 - 8 Street S.W., Calgary, AB, T2R 1B7). Arrangements entrusted to MOUNTAIN VIEW FUNERAL HOME and CEMETERY, 17 Avenue S.E. at Garden Road (1.5 km east of 84 Street S.E.). Telephone: 403-272-5555.
