->SKOWHEGAN -- Verna Fay (Daggett) Goodridge McGowan, 87, died July 30, 2008.She was born in Skowhegan on May 22, 1921, the fourth child of Omar G. and Vera S. Daggett. She graduated as co-salutatorian from Skowhegan High School and Bloomfield Academy in the class of 1939. On Nov. 14, 1941, she married Carl W. Goodridge. After a courageous battle with cancer, he died on May 18, 1978. On April 21, 1995, she married Walter R. McGowan who died Nov. 27, 2002.She was a member of Cedar Chapter No. 62 Order of Eastern Star, Priscilla Rebekah Lodge No. 69 Independent Order of Odd Fellows, the Mayflower Society, Somerset Grange No. 18, a past member of the Daughters of the American Revolution, and a past member and president of the Norridgewock Village Improvement Society.She was predeceased by two brothers, Roland and Delma, and a sister, Geraldine.She is survived by her son, D. Peter Goodridge of Gray; one brother, Gerald E. Daggett of Madison; one sister, Mrs. Adrian E. (Glema) Roberts of Skowhegan; and two granddaughters, Jill Goodridge of Salem, Mass., and Natalie Goodridge of Oakland, Calif. She is also survived by three stepsons, Brian L. and Daniel F. McGowan of Skowhegan and Robert W. McGowan of Wilmington, N.C.There will be no visiting hours or memorial service, but Verna wishes to extend a fond farewell to her friends and loved ones.Her son wishes to thank the folks at Cedar Ridge for the care and caring she received there.Arrangements are by Smart & Edwards Funeral Home, 183 Madison Ave., Skowhegan.
