SHORT, Verna Elizabeth(née Wood)passed away peacefully on September 9, 2015 at McGill University Health Centre Glen Campus, surrounded by her son and close friends. She is survived by her son David of Washington, D.C., and pre-deceased by sisters Sally and Sarah. Verna was much loved by her son and many friends. A native of Prince Edward Island and graduate of Mount Allison University, Verna followed her sister Sally to Montreal where she spent her career with Canadian Pacific Railway, followed by more than 30 wonderful years of retirement including frequent trips to visit her son when he was living in Europe and winters spent in Hawaii. The family would like to thank her extraordinary care-givers Sharon, Alice, and Pamela, all the staff of Chateau Westmount Nursing Home for making her last six years as fulfilling and enjoyable as they were, as well as the professional and support staff at McGill Glen Hospital for the excellent care provided in her final days. Visitation and reception at the Kane & Fetterly funeral home, 5301 Decarie Blvd., (corner Isabella) on Saturday, September 12 from 1 – 2:00 p.m., followed by the service at 2:00 p.m. A private burial to follow at Montreal Memorial Park (Les Jardins Urgel Bourgie), Ville St. Laurent. In lieu of flowers donations would be appreciated to Shriners Hospital, www.shrinershospitalsforchildren.org, which provided Verna with transformative care to overcome a childhood illness.
