ALICEVILLE Verda Mae Parker, age 89, of 513 3rd Street SE, Aliceville, died Jan. 10, 2006, at Pickens County Medical Center. Services will be 11 a.m. Saturday, Jan. 14, 2006, at Aliceville First Baptist Church with Dr. Charles Wilson, Dr. Tom Kay, Jr., and Rev. Larry Potts officiating. Burial will follow in Franconia-Oak Grove Cemetery with Skelton Funeral Home of Reform directing. Visitation will be Friday night, Jan. 13, 2006, at Dogwood Chapel, 200 5th St. NE in Aliceville. The body will lie in state 30 minutes prior to services at the church.Her parents, her brother, Floyd A. Elmore, and her sisters, Evelyn Tidmore, Anna Lou McAteer and Levis Elmore, preceded her in death.Survivors include her husband of 52 years, Thomas R. Parker, Sr., of Aliceville, Ala.; daughters, Nancy Parker Owens of Tuscaloosa, Ala., Betty Parker White of Raleigh, N.C., and Harriott Elizabeth Parker of Birmingham, Ala.; son, Thomas R. Parker, Jr. of Charlotte, N.C.; sisters, Trudie E. Billings of Northport, Ala., Leola E. Thornton of Conyers, Ga., and Wilma E. Johnson of Gordo, Ala.; five grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren.Mrs. Parker was born August 17, 1916 in Gordo, Alabama to the late W.C. and Mamie Mustin Elmore. She was a member of Aliceville First Baptist Church, a retired accountant and office manager and a life long resident of Pickens County.Pallbearers will be Kasey Clay, Olan Clay, Hugh Summerville, Joe Horton, Allen Moore, B.C. Patton, David Gentry, and Doug Turnipseed.Honorary pallbearers are Dr. Neil Honea and staff, caregivers: Felicia, Tamika, Janice, Fannie, Latonya, Roberta, Geraldine, Corine, Daisy, and Richard McCaa, staff of Pickens Medical Center, members of Aliceville First Baptist Church, members of First Presbyterian Church of Aliceville, and staff of Pickens County Home Health.The family requests that memorials be made to Aliceville First Baptist Church, the First Presbyterian Church in Aliceville or a charity of choice.
