Vera Louise Newton Carter of Homer passed away peacefully on November 27, 2010, at the age of 94. A native of Bulloch County, "Mamaw," , as she was lovingly known by her family, was the daughter of David Hines Newton and May Louise Griner Newton. Mrs. Carter was preceded in death by her husband, Ernest; and granddaughter, Sonja Cronia. She is survived by her children, David Carter Sr., Barbara King and Gale Allen; 11 grandchildren, 15 great-grandchildren and four great-great-grandchildren. After retiring as a supervisor from Blue Bell, Mrs. Carter lived an active life giving back to the community through her involvement with local Red Cross blood drives and the AARP. She was an active member for many years of Homer Baptist Church, where she taught Sunday School and participated in the Women's Missionary Union. With a life's motto of, "Do unto others as you would have them do unto you," Mrs. Carter will always be known as a genuine Christian lady whose love for God reflected in her sweet spirit and the kindness she showed to others. Visitation for the family took place from 4-8 p.m. at Ivie Funeral Home in Commerce on Tuesday, November 30. Mrs. Carter lied in state at Homer Baptist Church from 1-2 p.m. on Wednesday, December 1.
