NORTH HALEDON — Toni-Marie Hals (nee Verrone), 41, died Nov. 17. She was a graduate of Immaculate Heart Academy (IHA). She earned a bachelor's degree from Lynchburg College and master's degrees from both Temple University and Seton Hall University. She worked at Immaculate Heart Academy since 1997 in various positions as athletic trainer, coach, teacher, department chairperson, dean of students, assistant principal and currently vice principal. She has received many honors including the Kappa Delta Pi International Honor Society in Education, the James C. Fox Service Award, Lynchburg College Service Award, The George School Service Award, and the 2011 YMCA Inspirational/Courageous Adult Award. Nicknamed "Dean," she was a beloved figure at IHA and an inspiration to the students, faculty, alumnae and everyone that knew her. The color teal, representing ovarian cancer, was seen throughout IHA at the soccer and volleyball games in support of the dean. Her published articles include "Effect of a Semi-Rigid Prophylactic Ankle Stabilizer on Performance in Post-Acute Ankle Sprains" in the Journal of Orthopaedic Sport and Physical Therapy. She has also served as guest editor for that publication. Surviving are her husband, Ian Hals, of 16 years; her sons, Thomas and Anthony; her parents, Rita and Anthony Verrone; her brothers, Louis and his wife, Maura, and Lee and his wife, Tiziana; her sister, Michele Verrone Manning and her husband, Christopher; her maternal grandmother, Amelia Sandstrom; her paternal grandmother, Angela Verrone; her mother-in-law, Kathleen Hals; her sisters-in-law, Dawn Faulkner and her husband, Stewart, and Jacqueline Mendoza and her husband, Luis; and many aunts, uncles, nieces and nephews. Funeral was Nov. 21. Arrangements by Vander Plaat-Vermeulen Memorial Home, Franklin Lakes.
