Tola-Jean Jackson, born in 1924, spouse of Byron Jackson, daughter of Truman and Jessie, mother of Janice, Monticello, Tim, Findlay and Ohio, died on September 6, 2009 at 84 years old.
Tola Jean Jackson, 84, Lebanon, died at 1:40 p.m. Sunday, Sept. 6, 2009 at Clarian North Medical Center, Carmel. She was born on Sept. 27, 1924 in Lebanon to Truman and Jessie (Williams) Crostreet. She married Byron "Barney" Jackson in Boone County on Jan. 24, 1942. He died Oct. 14, 1986. She was a member of the Central Christian Church, where she was very active in organizing church dinners. She was a member of Golden Key and Kiwanis Club, of which she was a past president. She was a volunteer for Witham Hospital delivering meals on wheels and was a Girl Scout leader. She also was active in keeping foreign exchange students. She was a graduate of Dover High School in 1941. She worked for Winklers during World War II, followed by Schumates for some time. She was bookkeeper at Jackson Farm business for several years. Her hobbies were birds, yard work and she loved her family. She was a great artist and loved to write children's stories. Survivors include a daughter, Janice (fiancé Mark Brooke) Davis, Monticello; a son, Tim (Mary Carol) Jackson, Findlay, Ohio. She is preceded in death by one grandson. Visitation is from 4-8 p.m. Wednesday at Russell and Hitch Funeral Home, Lebanon. Services are at 11 a.m. Thursday at the funeral home, with Rev. Dale Matherly officiating.
