Timothy Brian Flanagan, 63, of Orange Lake, died Aug. 20, 2012, at home.Timothy was born June 1, 1949, in Brooklyn to parents Richard A. and Barbara (Ramsden) Flanagan.He received his BS from SUNY New Paltz and was a certified public accountant, certified financial planner and personal consultant. He enjoyed a long career in accounting, employed with the IRS and various accounting firms, including his own practice in Washingtonville. At the time of his death he was semiretired from Vanacore, DeBenedictus, DiGovanni, & Weddell LLC.Throughout his life, Tim was a dedicated mentor, teaching accounting courses for many years at Orange County and Bergen Community colleges.Strong in his faith, Timothy was a longtime, loyal and active member of Sacred Heart Church in Newburgh, where he served as a eucharistic minister and participated in the outreach to the ill and homebound. He provided accounting services for the East Coldenham PTA and Walden Rotary Club, of which he was also the former president and treasurer.Tim also served as a board member for the Valley Central school system. A lifelong love of soccer began with his time as a goalkeeper at SUNY New Paltz and continued as coach of his children's teams for more than 10 years for the Town of Montgomery Soccer League.Survivors include his wife of 36 years, Jeanne Marie (Walsh) Flanagan; four children, Dr. Matthew Timothy, Michael Terence, Mitchell Thomas and Maryellen Therese Flanagan; three brothers, Richard Flanagan and his wife, Leslie, of Hoboken , N.J., Dr. Michael Flanagan and his wife, Donna, of Warrensburg, and Dr. Dennis Flanagan and his wife, Theresa, of East Greenwich, RI; two sisters, Kathleen Rinartz and her husband, Hans, of Jacksonville Beach, Fla., and Sheila Flanagan of Fort Lauderdale, Fla.; and many nieces and nephews.He was preceded in death by his children Jennifer Marie and Mark Thomas , and June, Luke and John.Brooks Funeral Home, 481 Gidney Ave., in Newburgh, handled his funeral arrangements.A Mass of Christian burial was celebrated Aug. 24 at Sacred Heart Church in Newburgh. Burial was at Woodlawn Cemetery in New Windsor, where was laid to rest beside other members of his family.In lieu of flowers, the family has requested donations be made to the Walden Rotary Club, P.O.
