->Williams, ThomasThomas Williams, a safety supervisor at Ground Zero, passed away in Briarcliff Manor on Aug. 17, 2011, after a long battle with mesothelioma. During his career, he worked on historic projects and famous sites throughout New York City, including the World's Fair in 1964, JFK Airport, Rikers Island and Sloan Kettering. He worked on the restoration of Radio City Music Hall and Grand Central Terminal. In the 1970s Tom worked on the construction of the Twin Towers, and in 2001 he was a Safety Supervisor at Ground Zero. Tom was born on July 26, 1943, in Staten Island, New York to William and Josephine (Czeniawski) Williams. He graduated from Port Richmond High School in 1961. Tom was a proud member of I.B.E.W. Local Union #3 (retired) and held an electrical license in the state of Connecticut. He also attained several certifications for removing hazardous waste and installing fire alarm systems. A self-proclaimed union man, Tom was a volunteer at the Electra Federal Credit Union, serving the members of Local #3 as Treasurer and Loan Officer. Tom was also a volunteer instructor in OSHA regulation safety for the union. Tom loved a good debate. Even people who disagreed with him couldn't help liking him. Charming and friendly to all, Tom was happiest with his family and fiercely proud of his children and grandchildren. He was a connoisseur of Polish food and a master of pumpkin pies. Although known for his wonderful cooking, he never followed a recipe. He expressed his love through actions more than words and was always supportive to his relatives and friends. He traveled the world but was always a New Yorker and was rarely seen without a cup of coffee in hand. When people asked him his secret to looking young, he told them cigarettes and a fifth of scotch. He is survived by his wife Kathleen of 26 years, sisters Marcia Ledwith, Barbara Miller (Gene); children Denise Butwill (Scott), Christopher Williams (Donna), Matthew Williams (Bonnie), and Mary Williams; grandchildren Ryan, Samantha, Valerie, Kevin, John, Sean and Grace; nephews and nieces Michael, Steven, Mark, Jim, Susan, and Douglas; and many grand-nieces and grand-nephews.Visiting hours will be Sunday 2-4 and 7-9pm with Funeral Services at 8pm at Dorsey Funeral Home.
