Thomas Walter Cox, born July 10, 1930, in Gainesville, Ga., died Jan. 12, 2013, in Naples, Fla. Tom is survived by his loving wife, Brenda Margaret Harrison Cox; and sons, Stan Cox, Greg Cox and Dave Cox. Those who know Tom and Brenda will understand a friend's observation that their 60 years of marriage was one of the world's great love stories.Tom will be remembered for his love of his family, generosity of spirit, commitment to his friends, the strength of his faith and his quickness of wit. Tom retired early from sales, and along with Brenda, started Highlands House of Coffee in Highlands, N.C., a choice which allowed him the beloved freedom to spend cool summers in Highlands and warm winters in Naples the last 26 years of his life.Tom served this community through First United Methodist Church, the Lions Club and volunteered with Give Kids the World, the Salvation Army and Habitat for Humanity. He served in the U.S. Navy on the USS Coral Sea.Tom's memorial service will be held Thursday, Jan. 17, at 10:30 in the chapel at the First United Methodist Church, Gainesville, Ga.
