Thomas-O-Conor-Sloane III, spouse of Margaret-Lunder Sloane, father of Fla, Thomas L, Juliana S, England and Catherine S, died at 90 years old. Please consult the obituary here:
SLOANE Mr. Thomas O'Conor Sloane III, 90, of Westport, husband of Margaret Lunder Sloane, died Thursday, March 13th in Southport Manor Health Center. Mr. Sloane was born in South Orange, N.J., son of the late Thomas O'Conor Sloane, Jr. and Gertrude Larned Sloane, and has been a resident of Westport for the past 72 years. He was a direct descendant of the O'Conors of Connaught, one of the oldest traceable families in Ireland. His grandmother Isabel Mitchel Sloane, was the daughter of John Mitchel, the Irish patriot. He was also a descendant of August Chouteau, the founder of St. Louis, Missouri. Prior to retiring as Senior Editor for Double Day in New York City, Mr. Sloane collaborated with such distinguished authors as Jaques Cousteau, Salvador Dali, Marc Chagall, Marcel Marceau and Edward Steichen. He initiated books on Metal Craft and Jewelry with Finish author, Opi Untracht, and his wife, Sara. Mr. Sloane taught copy editing and creative writing at Hunter College as well as Fairfield University. Mr. Sloane met his wife Margaret in England during World War II where she was stationed with the American Red Cross. He was a 1931 graduate of Regis High School in New York City, attended Fordham University and was a member of the Craftmen's Group, in NYC; he also is a former member and past president of South Shore Music Club.Survivors in addition to his wife of 59 years, include two daughters, Catherine S. Kanaan of London, England, Juliana S. Fulbright of Westport; one son, Thomas L. Sloane of Lake Worth, Fla.; seven grandchildren; and three great grandchildren. He was predeceased by one sister, Isabel Sloane; and two brothers, Roderic and Hugh Sloane.Friends may attend a Mass of Christian Burial Tuesday at 10 a.m. in Assumption Church (directly), 98 Riverside Ave., Westport, CT 06880. Interment with full military honors will follow in Assumption Cemetery, Greens Farms. There will be no calling hours. The Harding Funeral Home, 210 Post Rd. E., Westport, is in charge of arrangements. Memorial contributions may be made to the Organ Fund, c/o Assumption Church.
