HAYES, Thomas June 3, 1922 - March 23, 2010 Great husband, father, grandfather, uncle and friend. Predeceased by his parents, sister, Kathleen and three brothers Pat, Sam and Bill. Survived by his loving wife Audrey, children Vicki Thornson (Doug), Brian (May-Lis) and Douglas (Patti), one grandson, five grand-daughters and six great-grandchildren, his brothers-in-law Bill (Eileen) and Thomas (Julie) Wilson, many nieces, nephews and good friends. Born in High River, Alberta, he spent his school years in North Vancouver. During the Second World War he worked at the shipyards as a riveter until joining the RCNVR where he was torpedo man on a landing craft taking soldiers to Juno Beach on D-Day. Married in 1945, Tom and Audrey raised their family in East Vancouver later moving to Burnaby. Tom worked as a forklift operator for Slade and Stewart. He was always sports minded and his boys took after him. He was a proud father, and never missed any event that any of the children were in. The house was always open to family and friends. Tom bowled for years and had great camaraderie with his fellow bowlers. Celebration of Tom's life will be held Monday, March 29, 2010 at 11:00 a.m. at the Bell & Burnaby Funeral Chapel 4276 Hastings St. Burnaby. In lieu of flowers donations to the BC Cancer Foundation would be appreciated. We will miss you Big Guy! Anchors Away!
