Obituary of Thomas-Glenn-Tom Carter


CARTER Thomas Glenn Tom Carter, Sr., 89, died peacefully in his sleep on October 18, 2002. Born in Lakeland, GA., he lived in Jacksonville since 1942. He worked for Duval Motors and retired after 24 years of service as an auto coordinator for the Duval County School Board. A former member of Norwood Baptist Church, he was a charter member and the first deacon at Shindler Drive Baptist Church. Tom was a member of the Scottish Rite, a Shriner, a 33rd Degree Mason with the Albert J. Russell Lodge, and a past patron of the Brentwood Chapter of the Order of the Eastern Star. He is survived by his wife of 65 years, Esther A. Carter; son, T.G. Carter, Jr. (wife, Joreta) of Jacksonville; daughter, Betty Braden (husband, Gerry) of Key West; grandchildren, Tommy Carter (wife, Susan), Lynne Swords (husband, Aidan), Jon Davies, and Jason Davies; great-grandchildren, Ashley, Catherine, Landis, and Jared; former son-in-law, Carl Davies; sister-in-law, Lizzie Mae Bailey; and numerous nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be held 11 a.m. Tuesday, October 22nd at Shindler Drive Baptist Church with Revs. Jay Huddleson and David Stevens officiating. Interment will follow in Evergreen Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 5 until 8 p.m. Monday at HARDAGE-GIDDENS FUNERAL HOME, 729 S. Edgewood Avenue.
