Obituary of Thomas F. X. O'connell


Thomas F. X. O'Connell 1950 - 2012 FEEDING HILLS - Thomas F. X. O'Connell, 62, passed into eternal rest on September 7, 2012. Born in Fall River, MA on August 22, 1950, he moved to Springfield as a child before moving to Agawam. A graduate of Cathedral High School, class of 1968, he also studied at Assumption College, class of 1972. Thomas had a long and iconoclastic work history. He was a twenty-five year employee of Smith College, retiring in 1992. Prior to that he had distinguished himself as a camp counselor for disabled children at summer camps throughout western Massachusetts including Camp Seco, Camp Jollee and the Boy Scouts of America's Camp Conley, where he was named an Honorary Eagle Scout. In later life he was self-employed as a designer and installer of theatric sound systems. All his life Tommy especially enjoyed the company of his friends, and he leaves many treasured life-long comrades in Agawam and Northampton, as well as his fellow Sons of Erin in Westfield. An avid reader, golfer and Red Sox fan, Tom was known for his sense of humor and quick witticisms. As a young man, he was an accomplished trumpet player. He was predeceased by his father, Thomas O'Connell in 1996. Surviving him are his mother, Frances (Custy) O'Connell of Feeding Hills, a brother Daniel and his wife Louise of Granby, CT, a nephew, Sean and a niece Nora, both of New York City. Burial will be private and Agawam Funeral Home is in charge.
