WATERVLIET Theresa M. Gethins Hanley, 86, of 14th Street, died peacefully Friday, December 30, 2004 under Community Hospice at St. Mary's Hospital in Troy. Born in Watervliet on March 25, 1918, she was the daughter of the late Peter A. and Josephine Reuther Gethins. Mrs. Hanley was a graduate of the old Watervliet High School, the last class graduating from the present Watervliet Civic Center. During World War II, she was employed by the Watervliet Arsenal as a secretary in the payroll department. She later owned the Invitation Shop, a stationary store on Broadway between 15th & 16th Street in Watervliet. Mrs. Hanley was a kind and caring mother and a caretaker to her whole family when they needed her the most. She was the beloved wife of the late Edward T. Hanley who died in 1963; the best mom of Peter E. Hanley of Watervliet, Alice J. (Jack) Ferguson of Lansingburgh, Edward T. (Sue) Hanley of Titusville, Fla., John G. Hanley of Watervliet and James P. (Donna) Hanley of Troy; adored grandmother of Tricia Almeida, Erin McGrath, Courtney Zalucky, the late Robert Hanley, Carrie Gordon, Kate, Sean, Ryan, Keith and Sara Hanley, Melissa Jankovic and Alexis Hanley and nine cherished great-grandchildren. She was the sister of the late James, Peter, Ernest and John Gethins; loving aunt of Constance Gethins, Marie Perry and James Gethins. The funeral will be Monday at 8:15 a.m. from the Cummings Funeral Home, 643 Third Avenue (Rt. 32 South of Arsenal), Watervliet and at 9:00 a.m. at Sacred Heart of Mary Church, Watervliet where a Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated by Rev. Joseph G. Busch. Interment, St. Agnes Cemetery, Menands.
