Thelma Elizabeth King Martin, 97, affectionately known as "Barba" to friends and family, of 115 Postelle Drive, widow of David Bryan Martin, Sr., died Thursday, June 12, 2008, at her home.Born May 8, 1911, in Anderson, she was the daughter of the late Edward Clifton and Etta Giles King. She was a graduate of Girl's High School, where she was President of the Senior Class, and was a graduate of Anderson College. Mrs. Martin was a homemaker, served as President of the North Fant School PTA, and was a member of the Progressive Book Club and the Evergreen Garden Club. She was a member of First Baptist Church, the Gleaners Sunday School Class, and taught Sunday School for a number of years.Surviving are one son, David B. Martin, Jr. of the home; two daughters, Marietta M. Bolt and her husband, Don, of Greenville, and Betty M. Cornwell and her husband, Ross, of Clemson; five granddaughters, Melanie Bolt Pouch, Tammy Bolt Watson, Paige Bolt Armstrong, Johannah Leigh Cornwell, and Anne-Ross Cornwell; eight great-grandchildren; one brother, Norman C. "Ump" King of Anderson; and one sister, Gladys Jamison of Greenville. In addition to her husband and parents, she was preceded in death by three sisters and one brother.The family would like to thank Mrs. Martin's faithful caregiver, Carolyn Johnson, for her excellent care and kindness over the past six years.Funeral services will be held at 4 p.m. Sunday at Sullivan-King Mortuary, Northeast Chapel, conducted by Dr. James R. Thomason and Dr. James G. Wooten. Burial will be in Old Silver Brook Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 3 to 4 p.m. Sunday at the Northeast Chapel, 3205 North Highway 81, Anderson.
