The Rev. G. Richard Mountfort Jr. PORTLAND -- The Rev. G. Richard Mountfort Jr., of 48 Birchwood Ave., Cousins Island, Yarmouth, born on Jan. 20, 1922, the son of George R. and Helen (Hinckley) Mountfort, went to heaven to meet his Savior at 8:20 a.m. on Monday morning, July 14, 2014. His wife of 27 years, Esther Robie (Blake) Mountfort, was with him at the time of his death. He loved God and served Him faithfully for over 60 years as pastor, teacher, camp director, and even bus driver! He served at Emmanual Baptist Church in Pawtucket, R.I., after graduating from Barrington Bible College, in Barrington, R.I., then went on to pastor several churches, including Evangelical Baptist Church in Laconia, N.H., York St. Baptist Church in York, Wentworth Baptist Church in Wentworth, N.H., and Turner Village Church in Turner. He was also the director of Higher Ground Children's Camp in Wentworth, N.H., for several years. He was predeceased by his brother Horace Mountfort, and sisters, Alice Forsyth of Portland, Eleanor Cole, Ella Eastman and Ruth Bailey of Waterville. He was also predeceased by his daughter Susan Fortin of Belmont, N.H.; his son-in-love Michael McAtee of North Berwick; and a very special great-grandson, Nathaniel Allen of Lisbon. He is survived by three sons, Richard and wife Donna of Bigleville, Pa., Carl of Waterville, and Tim and wife Pat of Salisbury, N.H., and four daughters, Diana Caldwell of Franklin, N.H., Becky McAtee of Winthrop, Martha Shaw of Wildwood, Fla., and Mary Chase of Orford, N.H. He also has four step-sons, Paul, Steve and Mark Davis and wives of Wentworth, N.H., and Ronald Blake and wife of Meredith, N.H. He will be sadly missed by his sister, Myra Sinclair of Vassalboro. He has many grandchildren; great- grandchildren; nieces and nephews who will miss him dearly. Richard's passion in life was his relationship with his Heavenly Father through his Son Jesus Christ, his family and friends and his life-long home on Cousins Island where he enjoyed hours in the swing watching life on the ocean. He will always be remembered as the preacher with a ready hug who could play up a storm on his beloved trumpet and pray 'til the food got cold! Dick will be missed by many, but goes to heaven to join many family and friends including three wives who predeceased him, Shirley (Fotter) of Waterville, Violet (Overlock) of Winslow, and Ginne (Davis) of Rumney, N.H. We will have a celebration of his life on Saturday, July 19, at 1 p.m., at the Cornerstone Baptist Church in Scarborough, where he and Esther were active members. Family burial will be held in Wentworth, N.H., where his late wife Violet is buried. Arrangements are being handled by Hobbs Funeral Home, 230 Cottage Rd., South Portland. In lieu of flowers, donations would be graciously received in his name by: Mark and Lynn Gordon, for the BALAT SENTER, More to Life Family Campground 48 Lady Slipper Lane Winthrop, Maine 04364 Dick had a great love for the ministry to families and especially teens at this Christian campground.
