Smith, Teresa M. ALBANY Teresa M. Gecewicz Smith, 84, died at home on Thursday, May 12, 2011. Teresa was born in Albany and was the last surviving child of Alex and Anna Janczys Gecewicz. She was predeceased by her husband, Howard Smith Sr as well as her brothers, Alex, Stanley and Joe Gecewicz; and sisters, Josephine Ploski and Ann McGue. She is survived by her loving children, Ann Lausberg and Howard Smith Jr. (Debbie); as well as her grandchildren, August (Kristen), Traci and Teresa Lausberg; great-grandchildren, Matthew, Daniel, Ariel, Kristopher, Joey and Makenzie and numerous nieces and nephews; and her beloved dog, Gizzy. Teresa was a retired CSEA member. She was employed at Patroon Oil for many years prior to her department of justice position. Teresa most enjoyed being a mother, grandma and aunt. She enjoyed being with her family and spending time at Eagle Lake. She was involved with the Ticonderoga Red Hat Society and the Eagle Lake Association. Teresa enjoyed Hudson in Florida where she spent time with her grandchildren. Teresa was a member of the flower society in Eagle Lake, the Albany Association of the Blind, the Polish American Citizens Club and was a member of the Joseph E. Zaloga Post 1520 Auxiliary for 47 years. In keeping with her wishes, Teresa spent her last days at home under the constant care of her daughter, Ann with help from her niece, Kathy Hesch and her daughter, Arica Calhoun. The family would like to thank The Community Hospice especially Robaire Long and Terry Clark whose assistance made Teresa's wishes to be at home possible. With Teresa's passing, her brothers and sisters are together once again. To know Teresa was to love her and she will be missed but never forgotten. Teresa was a huge supporter of St. Jude, and in her memory please honor her with a donation to St. Jude's c/o PACC, 110 Commerce Ave., Albany, NY 12206. Funeral services Monday, May 16, 2011 at 9:15 a.m. from Lasak & Gigliotti, now located at 208 North Allen Street, Albany, NY 12206 thence to the Parish of Mater Christi, Albany at 10:00 a.m. where a Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated. Relatives and friends are respectfully invited and may call Sunday, May 15, 2011, 4:00 to 7:00 p.m. in the funeral home. Interment, Our Lady of Angels Cemetery.
