Smith, Sylvia Everett (Knibbs) STILLWATER Sylvia (Knibbs) Everett Smith, 77, of Hudson Avenue, died Sunday, March 18, 2012 at St. Peter's Hospital, Albany, after a short illness. A native and lifelong resident of Stillwater, she was daughter of the late Harold and Pearl Palmatier Knibbs, and wife of R. Jay Smith who died January 20, 2011. Sylvia was a clerk with the New York State Insurance Fund in Albany for a number of years before retiring. She had been a volunteer kindergarten aide with St. Mary's Catholic School in Waterford. Gardening and cooking were things she enjoyed doing around the house, but tending to her family, especially her grandchildren, gave the greatest joy. Surviving family include three daughters, Marlene Hawkins of Schodack, Kathy Gleeson of East Longmeadow, Mass., and Joy Lesson of Malone and step-daughter Heather Smith of Saratoga Springs. Eight grandchildren, Andrew and Neil Hawkins, Tammy Kiley, Amy Schunk, Robert Gleeson, Erin, Joshua and Scott Lesson, along with 11 great-grandchildren. Also her siblings, Alice Martin of Florida, William (Ana) Knibbs of Stillwater, Nancy Palmer of Schuylerville and James Knibbs of Columbia, S.C., along with nieces and nephews. A burial service will be held at the Saratoga National Cemetery, on Wednesday, March 21 at 10:30 a.m. A gathering of friends will be held at Sylvia's home Wednesday from noon till 3 p.m. In lieu of flowers, remembrances may be made to Holy Family School, 12 Homestead Ave., Malone, NY 12953, in memory of Sylvia Knibbs Everett Smith.
