"Gina" Johnston of Crescent Place died Saturday June 26, 2004, following a brief illness.Born in Greenville, she was the daughter of Margaret Ashmore Johnston and the late Albert Eugene Johnston, Jr.Ms. Johnston was a member of First Presbyterian Church, a graduate of Furman University and the South Carolina School of Law.She began her law career with Haynsworth, Sinclair and Boyd defending medical malpractice cases. At the time of her death, she was a self-employed attorney.She helped start the Greenville Free Medical Clinic and directed it after its inception. She was the recipient of the disabled South Carolinian of the year award presented by then Gov. Carrol Campbell. She was a past member of the Greenville Hospital System Rehabilitative Task Force, the Mayor's Commission on Disabilities Issues, the YWCA Board of Directors, and counsel for the South Carolina Advocacy for the Disabled. She was also a past member of the Junior League and a lap swimmer for 29 years.Surviving, in addition to her mother, are two sisters, Margaret J. Koonts, Gwen,Johnston Austin; three brothers, A.E. Johnston III, J. Michael Johnston, Robert Graham Johnston; one niece; two nephews; and one great nephew.Memorial services will be conducted Tuesday at 11 a.m. in Harper Chapel of First Presbyterian Church with Dr. Randolph Kowalski officiating. Interment will be in Springwood Cemetery.In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Flower Fund at First Presbyterian Church in honor of Dr. and Mrs. Randolph Kowalski, 200 West Washington St., Greenville, SC 29601, or to the USC Educational Fund School of Law, Main and Greene Streets, Cloumbia, SC 29208.The Mackey Mortuary, Century Drive.
