LEBANON – Susan Blanchard Johnson, 77, died peacefully Friday, July 15, 2011, at Lebanon Center Genesis Healthcare in Lebanon.She was born Jan. 9, 1934, in Lebanon to Agnes (O'Leary) and Everett Blanchard. She grew up in Hartford, Vt., graduating from Hartford High School in 1952 where she played basketball and softball. She attended Russell Sage College and Lyndonville State Teachers College. In 1955, she married Maurice R. Johnson and moved to West Lebanon, where they raised six children.Susan worked for New England Telephone and AT&T for 25 years as a telephone operator in White River Junction and Concord until the Concord office closed in 1994. She embraced the multitude of technology changes and very much enjoyed her career and working with the public. She was a very strong, independent woman with her own ideas and opinions.Susan was an avid N.Y. Yankees fan much to the chagrin of her family full of Boston Red Sox fans. She followed all sports and especially enjoyed college basketball. She was a loving and devoted mother and grandmother to her children and grandchildren always happy to play games with them. She attended all her children's sporting events. Susan had a mischievous sense of humor and enjoyed keeping people on their toes, especially her wonderful caregivers at Genesis.She is predeceased by her brother, Warren Blanchard of Wichita, Kan.She is survived by her husband, Maurice; and their six children and their families, Debra Ford and her partner, Michael Guay, of Enfield, Douglas Johnson and his wife, Linda, of Lebanon, Mark Johnson and his wife, ngela, of Richmond, Va., Andrew Johnson and his wife, Karen, of Cornish Flat, Alan Johnson and his Fiancee, Yvonne Carrigan, of Columbia, Md., and Rebecca Torrey and her husband, Randall, of Canaan. She is also survived by 11 grandchildren and one great-grandchild, Nicole Ford of Boston, Julie Bean of Lebanon, Travis, Kaitlyn, Ryan and Brayden Johnson of Richmond, Va., Holly, Noah and Samuel Johnson of Cornish Flat, Ian Johnson of Columbia, Md., and Conner and Haley Torrey of Canaan.A celebration of her life will be held at the West Lebanon Congregational Church at 11 Tuesday, July 19. Calling hours are Monday, July 18, from 5 to 7 p.m. at Ricker Funeral in Lebanon. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Grafton County Senior Citizens Council, P.O.
