Sue-Blanton Moore, born in 1931, spouse of Wesley Moore, daughter of Kistler and Hazelwood-Hunt, died on January 25, 2015.
Sue Blanton Moore SUMMERVILLE - Sue Blanton Moore peacefully died at her home January 25, 2015 after a relatively short illness. The daughter of Kistler and Hazelwood Hunt Blanton, she was born February 27, 1931 in Orangeburg, South Carolina. Early in her childhood, the family moved to Summerville, South Carolina, where she would remain - except for short stints in Biloxi, Mississippi, and Denver, Colorado - for the remainder of her life. After graduating from Summerville High School in 1950, Sue entered Roper Hospital's Nursing Training School to learn a profession well-suited to her unselfish devotion to others. As a student nurse caring for Elaine Ackerman Moore, Sue met her future husband Wesley, a veteran attending Clemson College on the GI Bill. They eloped in 1952, and spent the next 54 years together, until Wesley's death in 2006. Sue worked as nurse, a stay-at-home mother, and after her children were all in school, she became the Audio/Visual Coordinator at Newington School until her retirement. In her every endeavor, she devoted enormous energy, whether it was blowing on a skinned knee, knitting a sweater, or baking chocolate rolls. Sue cultivated a vast congregation of friends of all ages. She never knew a stranger, whether it be someone standing in line at the DMV or a door-to-door salesman. She would engage that stranger in a conversation, and by the time their encounter was over, be on a first name basis. Many will miss her bright smile, "geechee" brogue, and infectious laugh. Survivors include her four children: Wesley/Rusty (Judy), David (Nancy), Fleming (Amy), and Sue Ellen (Dwayne); her grandchildren: Harrison and Ned Moore, Caroline Zomer, Lauren Bentley, Sarah Elizabeth Moore, and James and Catherine Mouton. Also surviving is her sister, Virginia Ellen Blanton. In addition to her parents, Sue was predeceased by her husband and her brother, Jerry Blanton. Sue's funeral will be celebrated at St. Paul's Church Thursday, January 29, 2015 at 11:00 AM. In lieu of flowers, please make donations to St. Paul's Church Building Fund, 111 Waring St., Summerville, SC 29483. Arrangements by Parks Funeral Home, 130 West 1st N. St., Summerville, SC 29483. www.parksfuneralhome.com Visit our guestbook at www.legacy.com/obituaries/ charleston
