Stanley John Sokolowski III died on May 20, 2010, while on tour in Iraq as a U.S. soldier. Visitation will be held on Sunday, May 30, 2010, from 1 to 3 and 5 to 7 p.m. at the Fiore Funeral Home, 236 Monmouth Rd., Oakhurst, Ocean Township, N.J. Condolences may be emailed to fiorefh@aol.com and will be received by the family. Stanley was a lifelong resident of New Jersey and graduated in 2002 from Ocean Township High School. Stanley's altruism began early in his life, where a ceaseless compassion and desire to help others guided him to pursue occupational and volunteer work as a lifeguard, EMT and firefighter. Stanley was not content to just practice his craft but worked diligently to master it. He qualified and taught as an instructor for lifeguard and CPR training. However, his true passion was, to the end, to be a FDNY firefighter. Always putting himself last, Stanley never failed to extend a hand to those in need. His passion for firefighting, enthusiasm to help, and courage brought him to Iraq in 2005 as a firefighter, where he was part of a team responding to fires and medical emergencies, assisting both U.S. soldiers and Iraqi citizens. In an effort to improve his chances at fulfilling his firefighter aspiration, he joined the Army in 2007 and was deployed to Iraq last year. Stanley is survived by his parents, Stanley and Christie Sokolowski; his brother, Todd Gregory, his wife, Nadia, and their sons, Dillon and Jacob; his sister, Shannon Saenz and her children, Natalya and Dominic; his sister, Katie Sokolowski; brother, Kyle Sokolowski; maternal grandparents, Warren and Elizabeth Stickney, and numerous aunts, uncles and cousins. A special son, brother, and uncle, Stanley's love for his niece and nephews and zest for life will sorely be missed by his family and friends. Those who wish to make a donation, in lieu of flowers, please send a donation to Oakhurst or Long Branch volunteer fire company.
