Obituary of Sonia-Kurtz Jones


Jones , Sonia Kurtz, 69, of 247 Imperial Lane, Lauderdale by the Sea, died Tuesday, February 6, 2007. Sonia arrived in this world with a smile and a song. Born in Schenectady, NY on April 13, 1937, she was the daughter of the late Lowell and Ethel Tarvestad Kurtz. Her spirit of joy continued through life. Sonia loved to sing and sang with many groups including The Sliver Swan Singers, Christ Church Choir and Chatham College Barbershop Quartet. She was Commodore of Lansing Sailing Club. Sonia retired from Heartwood School in Lansing, MI as a Special Education teacher. She lived in Lauderdale by the Sea for 20 years where she was active in the The Friends of the Museum of Art, Christ Church and PEO. Survivors include her husband, Dr. Bob Jones; sons, Dr. Greg Matlick of Asheville, NC and Scott Matlick of Lansing, MI; sisters, Mary Monkmeyer and Judith Litt; brother, William Kurtz; grandchildren, Madelyn and Stewart Matlick, and Annalise and Kylie Jones; and a host of wonderful friends. A memorial service will be held at 1:30pm Sunday at Christ Church United Methodist 4845 NE 25th Ave with the Reverend Tony Chance officiating. Her family will receive friends following the service in the church. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Christ Church or The Friends of the Museum of Art.
