SMITH J. Carter Smith, 40, passed away February 9, 2004. A long time resident of Jacksonville, he made his career with the Jacksonville Fire and Rescue Department where he was Lieutenant. He was a volunteer fire chief at South Ponte Vedra Fire Department Station 9. He served in the U.S. Navy. Survivors include his father, Harvey England Smith, Jr.; wife, Michele Murray Smith; step-children, Patrick Dylan Murray and Deborah Danielle Murray; brother, Harvey Smith; and sister, Ruth Sullivan (John). A memorial service will be held at 12:30 p.m. Friday, February 13th, at Hardage-Giddens Funeral Home, 4115 Hendricks Avenue.
