->WATERVILLE -- Sister Yvonne Binette, CSJ, also known as Sr. Marie Andrea, died Monday, March 16, 2009, at Mount St. Joseph in Waterville.She was born in Biddeford on Sept. 30, 1912, the daughter of Elzear and Lumina Croteau-Binette.She attended the Academy of Saint Joseph in South Berwick and pursued higher education at Saint Joseph's College in Portland and at Lamennais College in Alfred. She studied art at the University of Maine in Farmington and later in Mexico City, Mexico.Sister Yvonne entered the Congregation of the Sisters of Saint Joseph in Lyon, France, in 1929 and pronounced her first vows in 1931. While in France she gave piano lessons at the Externat Saint Bruno, a lycée for girls in Lyon.Upon her return to Maine in 1935 Sister was missioned to South Berwick where she taught music and French. She then taught in several parochial schools: Holy Family, Lewiston; Saint Michael, South Berwick; Saint Rose of Lima, Jay; and Saint John, Winslow. She gave music and art lessons throughout the years and was also involved in religious education programs. In October 2004 she moved to Mount St. Joseph, where she resided until her death.Sister Yvonne was predeceased by her parents and three brothers.She is survived by her sister-in-law, Clothilde Binette from Drummond ville, Québec; as well as by several nephews and nieces.The Sisters of St. Joseph extend their sincere appreciation to the nursing staff of Mount St. Joseph for the love and compassionate care they gave to Sister Yvonne.Friends may call from 4 to 7 p.m. Thursday, March 19, at Gallant Funeral Home, 10 Elm St., Waterville. A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated at 11 a.m. Friday, March 20, at St. John the Baptist Church, 26 Monument St., Winslow. Committal prayers and burial will be at a later date in St. Francis Catholic Cemetery, Grove Street, Waterville.In lieu of flowers, donations in Sister's memory may be sent to the Ministry Fund of the Sisters of St. Joseph, 93 Halifax St., Winslow, ME 04901.
