She was born in Lowell, daughter of the late William and Leda (Lajoie) St. Jean.Sister Rolande's teaching career includes experience on the primary, secondary and college levels in Lowell, Southbridge and Salem, as well as in the college level at Nicolet in the Quebec province.In the field of administration, Sister Rolande was principal of St. George School in Chicopee Falls, and general supervisor on the elementary and secondary levels of the schools of the Worcester Diocese for 11 years. During this time she served on the Planning Committee for Elementary and Secondary Education Act, Title 1, poverty programs for Worcester public and nonpublic school children and on the Educational and Cultural Task Force of the Worcester Model Cities. She was also a member of the Diocesan School Board, the Senate of Religious and the Liturgical Commissions.Within her congregation, Sister Rolande served as provincial councilor, assistant provincial superior, and the director of education. She translated into English the Constitutions and Statutes of the Sisters of the Assumption.Sister Rolande is survived by her nephew, Dr. Paul Juan, and his wife, who reside in Bronxville, N.Y. She also leaves several grandnieces and grandnephews, as well as cousins, Mr. and Mrs. Richard Hemenway of Shrewsbury.She was the sister of the late Bertha St. Jean.
