ALBANY Sister Mary dePorres Owens, RSM (Mary Catherine Owens), died Monday, February 27, 2006 at St. Peter's Nursing and Rehabilitation Center. A Sister of Mercy for 58 years, Sister dePorres ministered in a variety of areas. In education she ministered at St. John's, Rensselaer, Catholic Central High School, Troy and St. Patrick's, Johnstown. In health care she served at St. Peter's Hospital Lab. She also served as Director of Religious Education at Sacred Heart, Sidney, N.Y., St. Mary's, Frankfort and St. Mary's, Nassau. Born in Troy, N.Y., Sister was the daughter of the late Charles and Catherine Westbrook Owens. Sister is survived by her sister, Patricia Smith of Colonie, her sister-in-law, Elizabeth Goodwin Owens of Troy, many nieces and nephews and many grandnieces and grandnephews. Sister is also survived by the Religious Sisters of Mercy and her many friends among the staff and residents at St. Peter's Nursing and Rehabilitation Center. Viewing hours will be from 4:00 to 8:00 p.m. on Wednesday, March 1, 2006 in the Convent of Mercy Chapel, 634 New Scotland Ave., Albany. Relatives and friends are welcome and invited to attend a prayer service of remembrance in the Chapel at 7:00 p.m. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10:00 a.m. on Thursday, March 2, 2006 in the Chapel.
