Obituary of Sister-Mary-Samuel Carter


CARTER, SISTER MARY SAMUEL, OSU, 93, of Louisville, died Tuesday, May 17, 2005, at Marian Home. She was born October 20, 1911, in Columbia, SC, and entered the community in July 1939. Sister Samuel began teaching in 1941 at St. Elizabeth in Louisville. She taught at various schools including Sacred Heart in Conemaugh, PA, St. Francis de Sales in Morgantown, WV, SS. Peter & Paul in Cumberland, MD, St. Joseph and St. Rita in Louisville, SS. Mary & Michael in Madison, IN, St. Patrick in North Platte, NE, and St. Peter in Columbia, SC. Sister Samuel also ministered to the sick and elderly at St. Jerome and St. Leonard, both in Louisville. She is survived by two brothers, William Carter of Columbia, and John Carter of Lexington, SC; several devoted nieces and nephews; and her Ursuline family. Her funeral Mass will be celebrated at 10:45 a.m. Friday, May 20, 2005, at Marian Home, 3105 Lexington Rd., with burial in St. Michael's Cemetery. Visitation will be from 2-7:30 p.m. Thursday, May 19, 2005, with a wake service at 7:30 p.m., at Marian Home. Expressions of sympathy may be made to the Ursuline Sisters Development Fund.
