GUILDERLAND Sister Anna Martha Murphy, a Sister of the Holy Names for 71 years, died August 8, 2006 at Our Lady of Mercy Life Center, Guilderland. Born in Hoosick Falls, Sister Anna Martha graduated from St. John the Evangelist School and St. Joseph's High School in Schenectady. She made her religious profession on February 5, 1935. She received a master in library science degree from the Catholic University of America. She taught at the Academy of the Holy Names in Albany, in Silber Springs, Md., at St. Gabriel School, Washington, DC, Sacred Heart Academy, Tampa, Fla. and at St. James School, Long Island. She was also librarian at the Academy of the Holy Names in both Albany and Silver Spring. She was a life member of the Ladies Auxiliary of the Ancient Order of Hibernians. Sister Anna Martha is survived by her sister, Mary Ellen Zemeck; her sister-in-law, Ellie Murphy; nephews, Edward Zemeck of Schenectady and Thomas Murphy of Okla.; nieces, Patricia Jornov of Pa., Patricia Begbie of Burnt Hills and Eileen Comley of Scotia. She is also survived by several grandnieces and grandnephews. Her brothers, Joseph and William Murphy, predeceased her. A prayer service will be held at 4:00 p.m. on Thursday, August 10 in St. Joseph's Chapel of the Sisters of the Holy Names, 1061 New Scotland Ave., Albany, NY followed by the Mass of Christian Burial at 4:45 p.m. Contributions in memory of Sister Anna Martha Murphy may be sent to the Sisters of the Holy Names, 258 Partridge St., Albany, NY 12208.
