Shirley Mitchell, born in 1932, spouse of Mitch Mitchell, died. Please consult the obituary here:
MITCHELL, Shirley Anne (King) It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of a wonderful wife, mother, grandmother, sister and friend, Shirley Mitchell, on October 18, 2008. Shirley was born May 21, 1932 in Edmonton. She was the first child of seven to Jean and John King. She married the love of her life, Quintin (Mitch) in 1952. Together they raised eight children in the Woodcroft community where Shirley was an active volunteer, serving as a president and board member. Shirley was also a leader of Edmonton Federation figure skating for many years. She shared her energy and family values to create a better community for all. Shirley loved to read, garden, travel and spend time with her large extended family and friends. She especially enjoyed camping trips to Radium, the Okanagan and visiting family on the West coast. In retirement, Shirley and Mitch traveled throughout North America. They were blessed with 21 years as snowbirds in Apache Junction, Arizona where they made many lifelong friends. Family came first to Shirley. She had love for one and all, and her strength, spirit and zest for life will endure in all she leaves behind. Shirley is greatly missed by her devoted husband Mitch; her children Glenn, Norma, Nancy, Norm, Susan, John, Lorna, Tom, Noreen, Norm, Gordon, Tina, Lesley, Ron, Ross and Jolaine. Her grandchildren Shannon, Pawel, Scott, Chelsea, Leanne, Leah, Brett, Michael, Nicole, Adam, Kyle, Laura, Julie, Ellen, Lindsay, Jordan, Danielle, Sarah, Darren, Eric and Tori. Her extended family: Helen, Geoff and Kathy, Alan, Ian and Karen, Terry and Barb, Doug and Shireen, Barb and Ken. A special thanks to the staff at Kensington Village, Shepherd's Care for their support, care and kindness. In lieu of flowers, the family would appreciate donations be made to the Cross Cancer Institute at 11560 University Avenue, Edmonton Alberta, T6G 1Z2. A Memorial Service to celebrate Shirley's life will be held Friday, November 14, 2008 at 10:00 a.m. at the Chapel of Howard and McBride Westlawn; 16310, Stony Plain Road.
