JOHNSON, Dr. Shirley Elaine Shirley Elaine (Dresser) Johnson, M.D., died on April 17, 2007 at the Mississauga Hospital at the age of 83. She was married for 48 years to Allen Campbell Johnson, M.D., who predeceased her in 1992. She was born in Essex County, Ontario on November 8, 1923, to Freeda and William H. Dresser. She received her M.D. from the University of Western Ontario in 1944, at the age of 20. She went on to receive a Masters of Public Health from the University of Pittsburgh in 1963. Her career included practice as a pediatrician and as a distinguished public health physician. She retired as the Medical Director of Connaught Laboratories in 1987, having published 40 articles in the public health literature. She is survived by son Allen C. Johnson, Jr. M.D. and wife Janet, son Robert B. Johnson M.D. and wife Melissa, and grandchildren Kira, Stephanie, Laura and David. She is also survived by brothers Keith Dresser and Lyle Dresser, sisters Elizabeth MacCara, Elda Lawrence, and Mary Lou Dresser, and numerous beloved nieces and nephews. She was predeceased also by her son Douglas Brian and her brother Mervin Dresser. Friends may call at the Turner & Porter Peel Chapel, 2180 Hurontario St., Mississauga (Hwy 10, N. of the QEW) from 4-8 p.m. on Friday, April 20. A Service of Remembrance will be held at a later date at the Hammond Funeral Home in Leamington, Ontario. Interment in Evergreen Memorial Park Cemetery, Leamington. In lieu of flowers, memorial remembrances may be made to the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation or the Canadian Cancer Society.
