Obituary of Shirley Henderson


HENDERSON, Shirley Ruth (Southerst) Died peacefully Tuesday, May 10, 2011 at Fairview Lodge, Whitby. She was born in Windsor, Ontario in 1922. She married John Henderson on October 28, 1949 in Windsor Ontario where they resided until 2001 when they moved to Whitby, Ontario. John passed away in 2006. Loving mother of Bruce & (C.J. Smith) Whitby, Judy & (Albert Hummel) Etobicoke; proud Grandmother of PJ VanAuken (David), Oshawa, Robert Drury (Sharron), Whitby, Anne Henderson (Peter Rowlands), Auckland, New Zealand; and Great Grandmother of Jonathan and Cristina VanAuken, Kaity, Kelsey, Belle, Sabrina and Zachary Drury and Ashton Rowlands: Survived by one brother, Bruce, Dallas, Tx. and one sister, Dorothy Matheson of Southampton, On., predeceased by brother Doug. Shirley's long illness prevented her from doing the crafts and painting she loved. She was a long time member of St. Marks By-the-Lake Church, St. Clair Beach. Many thanks to the dedicated Fairview Lodge C-Wing staff where Shirley spent the past 10 years. Also thanks to the Whitby Legion for their help with equipment purchases. Arrangements were entrusted to MOUNT LAWN RECEPTION CENTRE (905-443-3376) and a private funeral service and interment has taken place. Donations in her memory to the Alzheimer Society of Canada in lieu of flowers would be welcome.
