MANNING, Shirley Elizabeth Barber, 73, of Opelika, Ala., passed away from apparent heart failure March 20, 2009, in Opelika, Ala. Mrs. Manning was born January 22, 1936, in Tampa, to the late Elmer and Marie Barber. Mrs. Manning graduated Magna Cum Laude from Troy State University in Troy, Ala. She was a long time member of Opelika Church of God. Mrs. Manning was preceded in death by her parents; one daughter, Michelle Hanna; one grandson, Jeromy Stewart; four sisters, Ernestine Anderson, Betty Powell, Peggy Flowers and Vivian McAnley; and five brothers, Earl Barber, Terry Barber, Johnny Barber, Junior Barber, and Teddy Ray Barber. Mrs. Manning is survived by her husband of 55 years, James Calvin Manning; one son, James (Dr. Sharon) Manning II of Chapin, S.C.; two daughters, Cheryl (Phil) Oliver of Laurel, Md. and Celia (Orlando) Espinosa of Montgomery, Ala.; and grandchildren, Angel Manning, Anthony Stewart, Amaris Espinosa, Lacey Manning, Jessica Oliver, and David Espinosa. Funeral services will take place at 10 a.m. Tuesday, March 24, 2009, at Fredericks Funeral Home with the Rev. Charley Bolt officiating. Burial will follow at Garden Hills Cemetery in Opelika, AL.
