Sharon-Elizabeth Miller, born in 1942, spouse of Bill Miller, daughter of Thomas and Beatrice, died on August 14, 2009 at 67 years old.
MILLER, Sharon Elizabeth (nee Hughes) - Passed away peacefully on Friday, August 14, 2009, at 67 years of age, of brain cancer. Sharon was predeceased by her parents, Thomas and Beatrice Hughes of Kelowna, British Columbia, and by her loving husband, Bill. Sharon leaves her daughters, Robyn Oberparleiter (Bernie) of Bracebridge, Ontario, and Darcy Niers (Derek) of Calgary, Alberta, and grandsons, Alex and Matthew Oberparleiter. She is also survived by her sisters and brothers, all of British Columbia, Pat Dulik (Den), Bob Hughes (Lita), Barbara Whitehead, and Lorne Hughes (Carola). Deep sadness will also be shared by Bill's family, Elinor Martin (Stewart), David Miller (Patti), and Stephen Miller (Ann). She will be greatly missed by all who loved and knew her including all of her nieces and nephews and her many dear friends. Sharon was born in Kamloops, B.C. in 1941 and was raised in the Okanagan Mission. She graduated from Vancouver General Hospital School of Nursing in 1964. In 1965 she married Bill and they lived in North and West Vancouver, B.C., and Thornhill, Ont., before settling in Aurora, Ont., in 1981. Sharon was a loving stay-at-home mom to Robyn and Darcy and approached homemaking as one would any other profession. She returned to the workforce in the mid-eighties and retired upon Bill's illness in 1990. Sharon's nursing skills were put to the test over the next year as she cared for Bill until his death in 1991. Sharon was devastated by Bill's death, but her great courage saw her continue with life and go on to bring great joy and laughter to all who knew her. She was a loving and fun-hearted grandmother (Buppa) and spent countless hours of her time volunteering within her community. Her many friends will miss her bubbly, talkative personality, her generosity, and ability to look on the bright side of almost any situation. A private funeral has taken place and Sharon has been cremated. A Memorial Service to celebrate her life will be held on Thursday, August 20, 2009 at 12 noon at Trinity Anglican Church in Aurora, Ont., (79 Victoria Street) (905-727-6101). A commemorative interment service will be held in Kelowna, B.C. at a later date. I n lieu of flowers, memorial funds can be made to The Ontario Lung Association 1-866-333-4045, donors@on.lung.ca, The Trans Canada Trail 514-485-3959, info@tctrail.ca, or The Special Olympics Canada, 416-927-9050, info@specialolympics.ca. They would also like to thank Dr. Janet Morse, Sunrise of Aurora, and Hill House Hospice for their exceptional care and compassion.
