Obituary of Shannon-Joyce Anderson


Shannon Joyce Anderson, 38, of 140 Wood Valley Lane, Athens, Georgia, died Aug. 1, 2001, at North East Medical Center, Gainesville, Georgia, from injuries she sustained when she and her fiance were struck by a vehicle during a motorcycle ride in Cleveland, Georgia. Both Shannon and Jim were wearing their helmets. Shannon was born in Trenton,New Jersey. She attended elementary and middle school in Carlisle, Pennsylvania, and later attended Wade Hampton High School in Greenville. She received her bachelor of arts degree in French from Davidson College and her masters degree in French from the University of Georgia. Shannon worked for a time as Coordinator of Foreign Admissions at the University of Georgia. She has been a professor of French at Truett-McConnell College in Watkinsville, Georgia, for the past several years. Shannon loved the theatre and was actively involved in all aspects of the art. She directed and acted in numerous productions at Town and Gown Theatre, a non-profit theatre company in Athens, Georgia. Shannon is a Past-president of Town and Gown. She also appeared in local theatrical productions in the Greenville area at Greenville Little Theatre, Centre Stage-South Carolina, and Warehouse Theatre. Shannon is survived by her parents, Paul and Roberta Anderson, of Greenville; a brother, Sean, of Los Angeles, California; a brother and sister-in-law, Andy and Kristina, of Aiken; and her fiance, Jim Muenckler, of Cleveland, Georgia. Shannon, Jim and their families and friends were looking forward to celebrating the couples' marriage September 22, 2001. A memorial service to celebrate Shannon's life will be announced as soon as Jim is released from North East Medical Center in Gainesville, Georgia. In lieu of flowers, Shannon would have wanted memorials to be made to Town and Gown Theatre at Post Office Box 565, Athens, Georgia 30603. - The Mackey Mortuary, Century Drive.
