Sarah Waltrip Davis SPARTANBURG, SC-- Sarah Leila Waltrip Davis, 100, of 3060 North Blackstock Road, died Friday, March 12, 2010, at Magnolia Manor of Spartanburg. Born October 13, 1909, in Converse, SC, she was the daughter of the late Luther Nelson and Mary Whisnant Waltrip and the wife of the late Harold J. Davis, Sr. A graduate of Fairforest High School, she attended Spartanburg Methodist College and was a substitute teacher and first grade aide with Spartanburg School District Six for over 40 years, spending most of her time at Arcadia Elementary School. She was a member of Arcadia First Baptist Church where she was a former choir member, secretary of the WMU, and teacher of the TEL Sunday School Class. Survivors include two sons, Harold J. Davis, Jr. and wife Virginia of Orangeburg, and James E. Davis and wife Nell of Greenville; two daughters, Mary Kate Ballenger, and Louise Gwinn and husband Wayne, all of Spartanburg; eleven grandchildren, Jeanette Danielson and Ward of Beaufort, June Thun and Mike of Swansea, Joy Skelton and Bobby of Seneca, Terri Wright and Barry of Greer, Sandi Davis and Gwinn of Greenville, Becki Easterling and Mark of Greenville, Jimmy Davis and Sarah of New Bern, NC, Jay Ballenger of Spartanburg, Mary Hughey and Glenn of Myrtle Beach, and Mandy Harling and Jonathan of Edgefield; a brother, Billy Nelson Waltrip of McDonough, GA; sixteen great-grandchildren; and two great-great-grandchildren. She was predeceased by a daughter, Sarah Leila Davis; a grandson, Jody Ballenger; and a brother, Albert Waltrip. Graveside services will be held at 2:00 PM Sunday, March 14, 2010, in Greenlawn Memorial Gardens conducted by the Rev. Joey Burnett. The family will receive friends following the service at the graveside. Memorials may be made to Arcadia First Baptist Church, P. O. Box 25, Arcadia, SC 29320.
