Sarah Louise SmithNorth CourtlandFuneral for Sarah Louise Smith of North Courtland will be held Saturday, May 12, 2012, at 1:30 p.m. from Pleasant Grove M.B. Church with the Reverend D. Foy Hutchins officiating and interment to follow in Pleasant Grove Cemetery. The body will lie in repose one hour prior to funeral service with Reynolds Funeral Home directing. Mrs. Smith was born January 7, 1944 in Courtland, the daughter of the late Welter "Diamond" and Lula Mayes Watkins.At an early age, Sarah confessed Christ as her Lord and Savior and joined Pleasant Grove M.B. Church in Courtland where she remained a faithful member of the choir, usher board, director of the kitchen committee and member of the Missionary Society. She was a member of the North Courtland Fire Department for 23 years. Sarah "mama" loved to sing and cook.On July 29, 1964, she was united in holy matrimony to Mr. Levolia Smith Jr. To this union six children were born. One son, Willie Smith, preceded her in death.She leaves to cherish her memory a loving husband of 48 years, Mr. Levolia Smith Jr.; two daughters, Debra Jean Smith and Christine Smith, both of Courtland; three sons, Timothy Elroy Smith (Arneta), Christopher O'Brien Smith and Courtney Bernard Smith of Courtland; three brothers, James "Buddy Jean" Mayes (Dorothy) of Decatur, Richard Lee Mayes and Charlie Lee Mayes (Callie) of Courtland; four grandchildren, one great-grand- child, 15 sisters-in-law, 12 brothers-in-law and a host of nieces, nephews, relatives and friends.Flower bearers will be the Courtland High Class of 1963 and nieces. Pallbearers will be Carl Moseley, Willie Moseley, Dwight Mitchell, W.D. Lee, Ronnie McClain, Anthony Mayes and Marvin Reedus.
