Sarah Lee Neeley Andrews Morrison, longtime resident of Liberty County, passed away at the age of 97, Tuesday, Aug. 2, 2011, at Coastal Manor surrounded by her family.Morrison was born in Fleming and lived in both Liberty County and in Philadelphia, Pa., for most of her life. She was a homemaker and a seamstress. She loved working and caring for children and became a foster parent to two sets of siblings.She was the daughter of Isaac Benjamin and Jessie "Anna" Neeley of Fleming. Her mother, Anna Neeley, preceded her in death at the age of 105. She was the granddaughter of the Rev. Floyd Snelson, who came to Liberty County in the mid 1800s and worked as an educator. He was the first principal of Dorchester Academy near Midway and founder of the Midway Congregational Church. Snelson-Golden Middle School was named, in part, in honor of her grandfather. She attended the school's opening ceremony and event.Morrison was a member of the Midway Congregational Church, UCC and for a number of years was a member of the Beach Hill Baptist Church. During her years in Philadelphia, she joined the Zion Baptist Church under the leadership of Dr. Leon Sullivan, where she was an active volunteer working at various voting polls throughout the Philadelphia community. An advocate for civil rights, Morrison participated in the march on Washington during the civil rights movement. Last September, during a family reunion held in Washington, D.C., she once again visited and toured the historical site and spoke of the many changes in her lifetime for the rights of all people.She is survived by her four children: daughter, Catherine Andrews of Hinesville; son, MSGT Ervin Andrews Jr., U.S. Army (ret) and his wife, Margaret of Brockton, Mass., son, Isaac B. Andrews and his wife, Oveder of Philadelphia, and daughter, Capt. Electa Andrews, LCSD (ret.) of Hinesville; 10 grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews and family and friends.She lived with her daughter, Electa Andrews and granddaughter, Deborah Andrews Dawson and Lorenzo for many years; Friends are invited to attend a visitation from 2-3 p.m. on Sunday, Aug. 7, at the Midway Congregational Church. A celebration of life service will be after the visitation at 3 p.m. Interment will be at the Beach Hill Baptist Church Cemetery.The family requests, in lieu of flowers, that memorial contributions should be made to education programs at Snelson-Golden Middle School, 465 Coates Road, Hinesville, GA 31313, or toward renovation programs at Dorchester Improvement Association, 8787 E. Oglethorpe Hwy. 84, Midway, GA 31320.Dorchester Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements.
